Alan graduated from the University of Toronto with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy after completing his Master of Science in Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa. During his time at the University of Ottawa, he worked in the Navigation Laboratory investigating postural control in older adults and the effects of attentional focus on athletic performance. Alan went on to publish his work in Gait and Posture, as well as the International Journal of Kinesiology and Sport Science.

Alan is passionate and committed to using an evidence-based approach to assist his patients in returning to activities that are meaningful to them. When working with Alan, you can expect to gain a clear understanding of your injury and receive expert guidance on how to best manage it. He strongly believes in developing a therapeutic relationship with all of his patients, so you can be sure he will listen closely to what you have to say. Moreover, Alan’s strong understanding of biomechanics and background in competitive Tae Kwon Do and Powerlifting also gives him a unique insight on the physical and mental demands of high performance sport.

In his spare time, you can find Alan in the gym training for his next Powerlifting meet, cheering on his favourite esports athletes, or hanging out with his Corgi, Monster!

Dr. Hayoung (Jessica) Choi is a Chiropractor and Acupuncture provider with a special interest and passion in the aging population with regards to their healthy aging journey. She provides evidence-based diversified treatments which include chiropractic manipulation/mobilization, soft tissue therapy, acupuncture, and education about wellness and exercise. As an immigrant, she experienced the challenges immigrants face in accessing and utilizing healthcare. Thus, she has been passionately volunteering at several community programs such as Korean Health Fair, Disability Rehabilitation and Fitness program, Children Development Centre, and Alzheimer’s Society Day Program at a senior home to explore the needs of our community. She also participated in Volunteering Abroad to Thailand in 2016,2017,2018 and to Bolivia in 2021 serving under-privileged population. She is interested in getting further involved in the community to provide a patient-cantered care around wellness, injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Physiotherapist, BSc. PT Joanne Dorion has been offering Facial Neuromuscular Physiotherapy Services at Bayview Physiotherapy & Sports Medicine Clinic since 2016. Joanne previously ran the Facial Physiotherapy Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, having completed her Facial Rehab Clinical Training in 1991. Joanne has been a co-author of facial nerve related articles in various professional journals, including Management of Bell palsy: clinical practice guidelines (Canadian Medical Association Journal, September 2014). Graduated in 1984 from Hong Kong Polytechnic, where he practiced for 9 years, Peter became specialized in Musculoskeletal, Hand Injuries, Sports Injuries and Spinal Disorders. He has worked in Ambulatory Rehabilitation at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre for 15 years.

Peter enjoys teaching and has won 10 teaching awards through his work with Physiotherapy students. In 2004 he became a Lecturer at University of Toronto, Department of Physical Therapy. He is currently a Lab Demonstrator in Advance Musculoskeletal Module at the University.

He competed for Hong Kong National Fencing Team in the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and World Championships for 4 years. Peter was the National Coach in Hong Kong. He coached the Canadian Wheelchair Fencing Team at the Para Olympic Games in Barcelona and Sydney, and was the National Team Coach for Canada Women Epee Fencing Team at Pan Am Games & World Championships. He has extensive knowledge in training for high-level athletes. Being Level III NCCP coach, he produced one Olympic and thirteen National Team fencers for Canada.

Peter held membership in the Orthopedic and Sports Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, the Toronto Hand Interest Group; he held a Fellowship in the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapy and has been a Certified Hand Therapist from 2000 to 2005.

John Pendlebury graduated from Pinderfields School of Physiotherapy in the United Kingdom in 1987. He is a member of both the Sports and Orthopaedic Divisions of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and holds a status appointment with the Department of Physiotherapy at University of Toronto as a Clinical Tutor.

John’s post graduate education has been focused in the specialized field of orthopaedics, which incorporates analyzing and treating dysfunctions/pain in muscle, joint and nerve tissue. John has gained a wealth of experience treating a wide range of joint, muscle and nerve related injuries/dystunctions in his 18+ years at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, as well as here at the Bayview Physiotherapy & Sports Medicine Clinic which he has operated since 1997.

Adiilah Heenaye Sumser is a registered physiotherapist who has a special interest in facial rehabilitation. She has a passion to work and contribute to the wellness of the community and is a strong advocate for her clients and the profession. Adiilah completed an Advanced Facial Neuromuscular Retraining Course in 2019 and has been seeing a variety of facial cases since. Adiilah has found that the most effective way to help someone with facial palsy is to tailor treatment not only to the specific condition but to the individual person, in order to meet their goals (big and small) at a pace that is right for them.

Debra Wang

Debra is an occupational therapist who specializes in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation. She earned her master’s degree in occupational therapy from Washington University in St. Louis and practiced in an outpatient hand therapy clinic in a hospital in Seattle prior to joining the Bayview Physiotherapy team.

Debra is knowledgeable and compassionate. You can expect to receive patient-centred care with evidence-based treatments.

She is skilled in treating both surgical and non-surgical patients and has treated various musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. She promotes patient recovery using custom orthosis fabrication, taping techniques, joint mobilization, soft tissue mobilization, therapeutic modalities, edema management, lymphedema interventions, and brace and ergonomic tools recommendation.

Debra is an active member of the Canadian Society of Hand Therapists and the American Society of Hand Therapists. She enjoys attending national conferences and learning about the latest research and technology for treatments. She also enjoys taking educational courses and obtained her certificate in lymphedema treatments from the Academy of Lymphatic Studies in 2023.

Prior to that she completed a double major in Biology for Health Sciences and Psychology, which provided her with diverse knowledge to complement her rehab approach. She has always been drawn towards health and fitness and found physiotherapy to be a very natural fit. She is passionate about empowering patients to take charge of their health and condition, giving them the knowledge they need to truly understand their bodies and the root cause of their problem. She is a strong believer in lifelong learning and ensures that she brings an evidence-based approach to her patients.
